Collection: CRAFT & FOSTER

Our Story

In the spring of 2015, wife, mother of four, military veteran and maker, Melissa Burgess, received her first DIY candle kit. Melissa quickly fell in love with the candle making process and began pouring them for her home, friends, and family.

After signing up for a handful of local maker's markets, Melissa's unique blends, strong fragrant throws, and muted packaging, quickly gained the attention of San Diego consumers and retailers alike.

Now what was once a part-time hobby has become a full-time family business with a retail/pour studio in Oceanside, CA and over 150 retailers across the country!

Why “Craft + Foster”?

People often ask where the name Craft + Foster originated.  It’s pretty simple!

The word “craft” refers to the artisan craft of candle making, while “foster” speaks to Melissa and Chad's desire to create products that subtly enhance life’s everyday moments, by fostering warmth and light to any space and occasion.

ABOUT OUR CANDLES

Why soy wax?

We chose soy wax because it burns better, cleaner, and longer than paraffin wax. Soy wax is a natural and non-toxic product that requires no additives aside from the premium fragrance oils we blend with it. Not only are soybeans a renewable, biodegradable, and carbon neutral resource, but they also greatly benefit the American agricultural economy and support U.S. soybean farmers.

Are your candles phthalate free?

Yes, all of our fragrances oils are free from phthalates. Though phthalates are used to dissolve raw materials in apothecary goods, medicine, and scents, varying health concerns have recently emerged regarding their use. There are no regulations against the use of phthalates in candles, but many manufacturers are moving away from using them in the production of goods.

How do I get the most out of my candle?

Our recommended burn time is 3-4 hours. Trimming the wick to a ¼ inch between each burn will help your candle last longer and remain cleaner. You can prevent tunneling by allowing the melt pool to reach the outer edges of the container with each burn. Allow your candle to cool before handling and never leave your candle unattended or within reach of children, drafts, or pets.
